I worked a total of six months at the Indian Health Center in Gallup, New Mexico. Participating in the mental health care needs of Native Americans was a very edifying experience. I entered psychiatry as a specialty for those unexpected "Kodak moments" that happen when people feel for the first time as though they matter. My time at the GIMC was filled with many unexpected Kodak Moments. I am grateful for the privilege of helping the Native American population.
